Gopi Shah Ceramics specializes in handmade, functional ceramic candle holders, planters, and housewares inspired by nature, textiles, and prints such as native plants, African fabrics, and Indian wood blocking. The collection features handmade ceramics that focus on intricate design work and glazing techniques to showcase these inspirations.
I started creating ceramics in high school and continued during college at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. It started as a hobby until friends and family pushed me to open my shop in 2014.
Each piece is handmade by me. I love throwing on the wheel and using design techniques such as sgraffito and mishima to create unique wares.
The path to get here has been crazy – living in Los Angeles and moving to Austin in 2014 has helped jump start me into my new creative career. I love exploring the depths and constraints of clay and exercising my creativity in new ways each day.
Each piece has a history and story to it. Let me know if you are interested in hearing about it.
