Lauren Winter is a clothing design studio based in the USA. Founded in 2014, their goal is to create high quality, statement designs that reflect the individuality of the wearer and evoke an air of timelessness. Lauren Winter prides themselves in quality pieces that are put together by a small team of talented makers in Portland, Oregon. Designs are inspired by origami an the versatile nature of shapes and folds. There are no buttons, zippers, or snaps- only ties, wraps, and elastic. They strongly believe in clothing conforming to the body. The fibers used are reactive dyes because of their low environmental impact, which use less water and don’t require harsh chemicals to fix color. The team members are paid a living wage, and their suppliers engage in free and fair trade practices. Hemp is the most resilient natural fiber on the market and it’s one of their favorites to work with. It’s a fast growing plant that doesn’t require pesticides or herbicides to grow, and it produces over twice the amount of fiber than cotton or flax on the same amount of land. Fibers like wool, organic cotton, tencel, and linen are woven from renewable resources and are fully biodegradable. Products are sewn with high quality, 100% organic cotton thread. Lastly, they believe in individuality. Therefore, there are 300 or less of each design produced in the world – on a planet of over 7 billion people, the odds are that your Lauren Winter piece will be unique and rare.
